Samsung Captivate on AT&T
The Samsung Captivate will soon be joining the summer superphone battle and I, personally, am very excited about it. So far, this looks like it may be my choice to replace my iPhone 3G. Like many others, I have been sitting on the fence, waiting for all the promised smartphone offerings to get out in the market, where they can be compared, before making my final decision.
The Captivate looks very promising. Some “review units” are out in the wild now, so I have been checking out the videos on YouTube. Reviewers are all commenting on how great the super AMOLED screen looks and how well it performs graphically.
One huge mistake that was made with the Captivate is the lack of a flash for the camera. It is such a small thing, but everyone is commenting on it. For me, it is not a deal breaker, but it may be for some. I think they should have spent the extra 50 cents, or whatever, and sprung for the flash. If for nothing else, so we could use it as a flashlight! (there is an app for that).
I was glad to see that the construction materials used were much better quality than the original design of the “Galaxy S”. The back panel on the Captivate has been confirmed to be metal, rather than the cheap plastic of the original. Reviewers report a much more solid and quality feel to it.
Camera quality looks great to me, so far. I think the video quality is the closest to the iPhone, out of all the other current offerings. I have not seen enough stills to decide on that yet. The few I have seen look really good. I would like to see more comparisons against the iPhone, since it has, arguably the best camera so far. For me, the camera is important.
For those still sitting on the fence, like me, we will just have to wait to see how all this shakes out. HTC Droid Incredible, iPhone 4 and HTC EVO 4G are out. Droid X will be here in a couple days, and Samsung Captivate following close behind. Should be exciting! I hope nothing else gets announced. I’m tired of sitting on the fence!
How I Became A Blogger
So it was Friday. I had taken the day off and was thinking of what I should do for the weekend. I wanted to do something constructive, but enjoyable. I thought, maybe I would check the internet and see if I could find some information on starting a website. That would be a good weekend project. Just start a website. Now, I have to add here, that I have no experience with websites, or business. I have nothing to sell, or no real service to offer, but starting a website just sounded like a good plan.
I fired up Google and thought about what to search for. I started with “how to make money on the internet”, just for fun. I came across a site http://courtneytuttle.com/ that recommended starting a blog instead of a website. The site explained that it was very cheap and very easy to do. Today is Sunday, and here I am, writing my first post.
Was it cheap and easy to do? Well, yes and yes. It was $8.99 to register my domain name at Prouddomains.com. I opted for another $9.99 for “Domains by Proxy” to keep my personal information out of the WhoIs database. I purchased web hosting for $9.99 per month, also at Prouddomains. That brings the total start up cost to about $29. I would say that is pretty cheap.
Setup was pretty easy. I mostly just followed the instructions I found on Courtney Tuttle’s website. I added my domain name to my web hosting site, set up my account, installed WordPress blogging software and well, here I am.
The trickiest part is getting familiar with how everything works with WordPress, but it is not too bad. I will just learn as I go. The web is full of helpful sites. Let’s face it, blogging is not a new thing.
What am I blogging about? You ask. In case you cannot tell from the name, I plan to do a little writing about Tekk…I mean tech. Hey, the TechBlog domain name was taken. So were all the other 50 names I tried. I seriously just wanted it over with, so I could move on with my life.
What kind of tech? You ask. Well, I spend a lot of time on the internet researching gadgets, like computers, smart phones, TVs, cameras etc. I figure, why let all that research go to waste, when I can share it on my shiny new blog. So, if your a tech lover like me, be sure to bookmark me and come back often. I will be here.
